Europa S2 Brochure
« on: Friday,September 27, 2019, 07:02:08 AM »
Attached is a brochure I found in my Lotus archives of a Lotus Europa S2.  I remember my brother (who was 4 years older than me) bringing home the brochure and me longing to have one one day.  I was 12 or 13 at the time.
Enjoy.

Thanks for posting that one, it's very interesting. The headline is "S2" but the car looks like an S1 to me (John might confirm ?) and it's got the "EUROPE" number plate which to me says 66/67.

That's got to be an unusual brochure, not like the S2 ones I've seen anyway.

Brian

edit to add - just noticed the door windows but lack of exterior handles. Is that an S1b or were the early S2's supplied with the earlier door handle mechanisms ?

Brian,
It is hard to tell from the first photo, but from the rear quarter shot the dash crash pad does look S2.  If the first photo wasn't so dark at the base of the sills, you should be able to tell instantly that it's an S1 or S2.  Also, the body has the S2 badges on the rear quarters.

The first 400ish Series 2's shared the door hardware and upper body features of the Series 1, and some of the S2's did have the "Europe" badge instead of "Europa"

ah, thanks for that. I thought the "EUROPE" thing was only tagged for the very first (1966/67) Europas and that the bug-eye indicators were out with the S2 bodyshell, but the electric windows were causing me to doubt my hazy memory.  I quite like that version of the S2, the cleaner lines of the S1 with presumably a better interior and windows that open like a modern car.
cheers,
Brian

The door handles didn't change until about 200 cars into the series 2 run.  That was about the same time they added the front indicator lamp nacelles. Most of the late 1968 S2s have those particular S1 features.  By 1969, you get all of the S2 changes.  And Europe was the name of the German version because Volkswagen had the rights to the name Europa in Germany

No S1 was made with either the “Europa” or “Europe” badge.

Here are some photos of Tara King from the Avengers' series with her 1968 very early rhd S2.  Notice that it does not have Europa or Europe on back of the car in the first photo just like jbcollier said about all the S1s.  But it does have the S2 badge. Thanks John!  I would not have noticed it otherwise.
