This Triumph Spitfire Vertical Link fits on an Europa?
« on: Wednesday,October 31, 2018, 12:21:20 PM »
Hi,
Now I found out that there comes another type of vertikal link up when searching for triumph Spitfire, that is bit different. With 3 holes instead of 4; see the picture. Does this one also fit on an Europa?

Thanks

Yes, but you'll need the steering arm.  The caliper bracket is integral with that upright and will accept the stock Europa caliper.

It looks totally different to me.

Why do you want to fit this one?

If you need another upright, I have spares of the correct part.

It's just as a sort of spares, I don't need them. Do you also know if the hub and bearing are same?

I have the standard uprights, and the GT6 uprights at home.

I will look at them at the weekend and see what the differences are.

The one pictured takes the small bearing hubs and stub axle (stock Europa).  They are geometrically (suspension) the same as the Herald type, and from what I've been lead to believe they are stronger than the Herald/Europa/Elan type.  Unless you're wanting a 100% correct car, there is no reason why you couldn't fit them.

The GT6 uprights have a larger stub axle to accept larger bearings, but I can't remember if the stub axle dimension is the same where it goes into the upright.  The GT6 caliper mounts are different as they take a 16P or 16PB caliper.

The early Spitfire/Herald type are weak where the steering arm goes through and bend easily.  This is not necessarily a disadvantage as it may save the chassis.  The later Spit/Herald are much stronger and, as Rod has pointed out, they also take a different steering arm.  Both are dimensionally the same and can be interchanged as an assembly.
