A letter from Lotus
« on: Friday,August 31, 2018, 10:29:49 AM »
I found this letter in my archives.  I thought it might be interesting to you all.

I tried to get a job at Lotus in 1982 after I had graduated from the University of Florida with a masters in mechanical engineering.  I had previously worked at Chrysler in Detroit in combustion research until I got laid off in 1980.

It sure does show what a terrible mess the economy was in worldwide in 1982.  It wasn't a good time to find a job!

Wow! That looks like a near miss. What a nice letter and keepsake! It would probably have been a very interesting job if they could have hired you. Things started turning around in the US - and in England too, I suspect - in 1982 so you might have had a better shot if you had been able to wait. On the other hand, Lotus' fortunes have always been pretty sketchy that it might not have been the most stable employment situation.

Now that is fascinating, and from Tony Rudd as well.  That's a great memento, thanks for posting it.
