Thankyou everyone for your input - Clifton I was intrigued with your toe plate board approach -

You can buy pre made toe plates. https://www.amazon.com/VEVOR-Toe-Plates-without-Probes/dp/B09BQJ738V

I used the wood (free) and left over steel tube (free) to keep them from warping.

Very true Clifton - in fact apart from an ashtray, it would seem you could buy, (assuming you had the money), all the individual parts and service items required to build a Europa from scratch.
But where would be the fun in that? Free, resourceful and ingenious is good.  :)

I used Tenhulzen toe plates about two years ago to do my alignment.  Very effective and satisfying.

In the photo, the jack stand is merely adding a little pressure so that the toe plate remains in place while making the measurements.
