Silex idling to fast
« on: Friday,May 25, 2018, 08:21:09 AM »
Tried to start my europa this morning
Never had problems idle was ok at 900
rpm this morning started normal then
Started running real fast I removed the
Choke and it kept running like 2500
So I tried pushing on the throttle to
lower the rpm but it was still running
2000 and over so I shut it off
Does someone have any idea what
could have happened it just started
Doing this I did not touch the carb
Thanks for your help

Seems like every time I fix one problem
Two arise I love my europa!!

I would make sure that the throttle cable and linkage and return spring are all normal first.

I did I started the car a couple of times
In the last weeks no problem ran ok
This morning it was over reving
The throttle is fully retracted I even
checked the stop screw to see if it was
Preventing to retract the throttle
it does like if the choke is on but it’s not
I have no idea what happened

I’m having (what I think is) a related problem. My throttle is sticky, such that gently depressing the accelerator does not budge, then with more foot pressure jumps a lot, giving more revs than I was trying for. Not so good in stop an go traffic. So far the return spring is strong enough to go back to idle, but if it wasn’t I would expect the same symptoms calfkid is having.

I’m assuming this is a throttle cable lube problem. Is there a preferred gease/procedure for cleaning and regreasing the throttle cable?

I would put on pb blaster on the wire
And slide it back and forth until there
Would be no restriction
In my case the cable moves nicely and
The throttle moves back to its original
Position my problem is at the carb

Ok I disconnected the cable and linkage
and noticed I got a little more loose on
The throttle the wire is at its maximum
so I’m gonna lenghten the linkage rod
But I started the engine with the linkage
Off and got it to rev much lower I’m gonna
Soak the linkage to loosen it then put it
back on
Now I was wondering why it did that
Maybe because I ran it a couple of time
It cleaned the carb
or maybe I bent the bracket holding the throttle
cable accidentally
Looks like it’s ok  now I’ve had enough
For today !

Was running ok went back to reassemble
But tried to start it before started over reving
again I’m thinking maybe the float gets stuck
looks like to much gas is going in I’m thinking
of removing the carb and cleaning and adjusting
it
I know it’s a solex but I can’t see what model number
If someone knows please let me know

Thank’s  Claude
