Radiator fan relay wiring
« on: Friday,May 12, 2017, 02:57:14 AM »
Unfortunately the wiring diagram is far from clear for this task and I think relay labels have changed.  Does any one know how to wire up the relay on the S2

We have

Black + Red/black
Black
Purple
Green +green

Modern relay is labelled
30
85
86
87

Purple (fused battery +) goes to the 30 terminal

Double Green (fused ignition) goes to 85

Black/Red-Black (rad fan switch and dash fan control) goes to 86

Black probably to 87 (should be the rad fan feed but double check using a continuity meter)

Anyone know Why is the red/wire connected to the heater fan switch? What does it do?

The heater fan switch has three positions:

- off
- heater fan on
- heater fan and rad fan on

Oh that's interesting. I've replaced my switches so I need to consider if that wire is important.  Does the red/black wire trigger the radiator fan by going to earth? If so I gues I could just add another switch. Thanks for your help

Yes, it earths the relay to turn on the rad fan.  The original heater fan is a single speed.  Fused ignition power to the heater fan and it earths through the switch.
