door window mechanism question
« on: Monday,May 08, 2017, 05:23:18 AM »
Hi, It is about time I start with the door windows, I need to connect the glass to that lovely small u-shaped rail that pushes the glass up and down, how thick is the rubber that goes in between (if I can use rubber) and do I need some soapy water to push it on?

thanks, Rick

Hi Rick,
I'm surprised no one has replied to you yet, I suppose they don't have the doors in bits ;-) like me!
I have attached two pics to help. First I would not grease the glass as the glass clamp has to grip the glass firmly as there is quite a bit of power needed to pull the window down, in my car anyway. The rubber sandwich is 2mm thick and is probably glued on with sealer.
Hope this helps.
Stu

Hi Stu,  2mm sounds good to me as this is what I was thinking about after measuring the glass and that steel part.

thanks for the confirmation about the rubber.

rick

btw my glass drops down on it's own weight , however I had to bend the aluminium fram as it was way out of shape when I got the car so maybe that's your problem as well
