Fitting new rubber grommets over new coolent pipes
« on: Monday,May 01, 2017, 10:46:49 AM »
Is there a trick to this. If I install the rubber first the pipe won't fit. If I install the pipe then try and then the rubber it won't work. New pipes are the same OD 1.25".  Any thoughts ?

How close are they? You might try a bit of grease around the grommet and on the tube.

Way to tight. Can't even get them started. If I opened the hole to 1 5/8" it would work but can't find a step drill bit that size.

I don't know. It sounds like you have the wrong size grommets. Where did you get them? Another option is something like this (http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/grommetedging.php?clickkey=284523). On aircraftspruce.com, you can search for plastic grommet for other options.

I just put some in from RD. They were tight, not too tight, just tight enough. I used Windex to wet it as I fed it through.

They were the RD ones. I'll check Coolent pipe again tomorrow.  Ordered 1.25" pipe but maybe that's the problem

Did you order 1 1/4" pipe or 1 1/4" tube?  That may be the issue.

Finally got it figured out.  RD grommets.  Pipe 1.25 OD so I knew that was right. Started from the rear and it worked fine.  The front chassis hole was cut flush with a horizontal plate in side.  Just had to remove a tiny bit of the grommet back and everything slide in.  The plate was pushing everything down and it was too tight a fit.
