Carpet set
« on: Tuesday,January 24, 2017, 09:12:37 AM »
I have seen people have bought carpet sets from Automat in N Y.  Have you all been satisfied with the quality?  I bought a set from Sports and Classics and it is so poor I am going to buy a new set from someone.  Any other recommendations?

I have a set from Automat and I am very happy with it. You can choose from a bewildering array of material and any color you're likely to want. My set came with carpet for both trunks. For an extra charge they also embroidered the Lotus roundel in my mats (I don't know if that is still available because after I got mine, I heard there were copyright issues, but they also did custom designs too.).

I have one small complaint. IIRC, I chose a wool carpet. It's nice and plush, but it sheds a little. A little time with a vacuum cleaner takes care of it. That's the worst thing I can say about it. It's complete, it fits, and it's beautiful. I can't compare them to other carpet sets, but I can't believe any are any better.

Just my $0.02!

Did you buy the Wilton wool and what color did you buy?

It's been so long since I ordered them, I don't remember the material. When I read the options, I really had no idea what they were talking about or how to make a comparison. Wilton wool could be it. It's not a loop pile. I remember they described one as similar or a copy of what was found on some Porsches and I might have picked that one. Geesh! I'm not much help am I? The color is what I thought would be close to the biscuit that Lotus used at the end of the Europa production. It's probably a bit warmer in color. Maybe a little more yellow or tan than the Lotus biscuit color. I wasn't going for the Lotus color. I wanted something that was light but hopefully wouldn't get dirty easily. It was easy to find a nice fabric for the seats and door panels that matched really well.

I'm not at home so I don't have good pictures I can post here. I thought I had some pictures on this forum but I couldn't find them. There are some good pictures here (http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f221/hi-nc-89399/).

I wish I could be more helpful but it was a long time ago and I wasn't worried enough about what I ordered other than it be a lot better than stock and was cooler than black and reasonably easy to keep clean. I hope that helps! If I was at home and could look at my old Automat catalog, it might jog my memory. Heck, I might even have the receipt from Automat! I'll be glad to look for you when I get home if you want.
