Removing door hinge bobbin/threaded insert when rusted?

I did try searches but all I found were discussions on door adjustment.
The problem with the drivers door on my red car is that the threaded bobbins do not grip the door well.
The bobbins in the body are fine.
There is no way to simply unscrew these as they are rusted, so it looks like I will have to destroy them for removal.
I have the Whitworth wrench and a 1-1/8, but it is impossible to get sufficient grip at the thin end.
I expected a prior thread about this here but did not find any.
I am trying to complete a ball-hinge conversion.

Best way to get them off?
Grind the top off, drill them out?

I used a hacksaw blade in a blade holder but the better way is a saws all. Make two cuts several inches apart and take out the center. After you cut it, penetrating oil and elbow grease should get it out. The bottom of the pin is tapped for 5/16-24 I think. You can put a bolt up in it and turn it with a wrench to get it free. For the top, you just have to grab it with some vice grips and twist.

Are you talking about the hinge assembly being rusted? The bobbins embedded in the door fiberglass are big and squareish, with no threads. If so, yes, cut them up to remove.

I drilled them from the outside part way, then used a thin blade angle grinder.
That went pretty quick.
These cars really were not intended for long service were they, no way that steel would not rust.
I expect someone sells replacements.
I hope they are brass or stainless.

Now I have to fill the excess space.

rd sells stainless reproductions. Lotus Supplies sells brass hinges that are a completely different design. They have the advantage that you can take the doors off and only have to adjust the height. The rd hinges, like the stock hinges, would require you to start all over. I only have experience with the Lotus Supplies type so I can’t speak to which is easier to get the doors adjusted.
