Wishbone pivot pins / studs

I've got a few different ones of these in the box of bits. I've looked in the manuals but can't see any different lengths. Does anyone have the definitive info on which ones are upper / lower / S2 / TC? The parts catalogues don't seem to mention lengths.

Are the top ones longer for the ARB?

From your experiences, do Nyloc nuts or twin lock nuts work better, especially when you want to get them back off. Copper grease will be smeared on of course.

Only the upper uses a long pin.  There are two lengths that I know of: short for S1/2 up to #1065 (rear, upper a-arm inside the frame) and longer for S2 from #1066 and TC (rear, upper a-arm outside the frame).

The ones I took off my 68 S2 were 9.25" overall with a nut welded on one side

The 9.25 bolt was the top. The bottom studs measure 10" end to end  and are attached to the car.

I don't think mine are either because I was sure I'd pulled all the pins out when I did the poly bushes a while back, but after reading these posts I was doubting my memory (not unusual for me  ::)  )

Anyway I took a look in the parts book and the TC onwards cars do have detachable pins all round so it's not just a Spyder thing. Maybe they did it for accident damage or just because it was cheaper to make, it's Lotus so probably the latter !

Thanks Brian, all.

I think I've got this sorted out now... just had to ratchet strap it all together to get enough thread to get all the nuts on it.

Upper pivots on mine are 260mm or 10.25 inches approx
Lowers are 270mm or 10.675

The uppers seem to be just long enough and no more, for their application, whereas there's a little more thread available in the bottoms. I did the bottom ones first so maybe I'll try a swap around and see how that looks, but I'll do some more measuring first, as they're a bit of a pain to change :D

I'm not sure if that's normal, because I've got rose-jointed adjustable wishbones at the front. Not sure if the rose joints and spacers make the pin length requirement longer, shorter, or about the same.

I suspect that removable pins increase the number of servicing options (you can remove it in either direction).

My TCS has a bolt on the top with the head on the interior side so it can be pulled out though the cabin and on the bottom it is a special bar threaded at both ends. both fit within tubes in the chassis.
