Nice pictures, John! It seems odd to see a Europa rally car in '70s. Maybe it was a different type of rallying, but the ones I saw had lots of ground clearance for the off road bits. Of course, now a days, they seem to be saloon race cars.

Having competed in 2 World Championship Rallies in 1982 and 1986, I can say that there is a heap of difference between a tarmac spec rally car, a gravel spec rally car, and a snow spec rally car.

The Europa, like a Clan Crusader, a Renault Alpine A110, and a Darrian, are quite suitable as tarmac spec rally cars. I have even seen Ferrari 308s used. The A110 is one of my favourites along with a Metro 6R4 (which I had), and a Lancia Stratos (which is far too expensive).

Of course, the Lancia Stratos was a big rally car back in the day... When I was racing, I only knew one guy who rallied and his was the high ground clearance type car. That and it seemed that all the pictures of rallies had cars rocketing through the woods or over sandy, dusty almost roads. I know now there are other forms of rallying, but when I think of rallying, I always go back to those old images. It just shows how little I know about rallying!

As 4129R has pointed out, there are/were lots of regularity road rallies.  Less common today, and not that common even back then, were high speed road rallies, one of which I think these photos are from.
