Toyota 2GR swap

The plan is a Toyota 2GR with S54 (90+MR2) trans and axles and MK1 MR2 rear suspension. I  pulled the suspension and engine/tras out this week. Last night I picked up an 86 MR2 parts car. I'll use the rear suspension off it, maybe some of the a/c parts if I can. This will keep me busy for a little while I look for the trans, engine and other misc stuff.

I'm not up on all the Toyota engine numbers, but I assume you're talking about the 4A-GE motor. That's a great motor and it's a pretty popular engine swap, but I've only heard of people linking it up with one of the Renault gearboxes (NG-3, 365, etc.) rather than the Toyota units which makes the swap a lot easier. That's not to say your plan is impractical. You might want to talk to Richard at Banks (banks-europa.co.uk) as he has done lots of different engine swaps and probably knows more about Europas than anybody.

The 2GR is a 3.5 V6. Fairly light for a V6.  They make around 270-280hp to the wheels. Lighter than the 5sfe in the later Mr2's. I don't know about the 4age though. They do have iron blocks too.

Are you going to use any of the Lotus rear suspension? IE, radius arms, hub carriers, ect..

I saw references to a V6 but I wasn't sure that's what it was. That should really move out!

Since you put this thread in the 'Paddock' area, are you planning on racing it? What kind of racing?

I've been researching more and hunting parts. I have a transmission and axles lined up. I think picking up a wrecked Rav4 from IAAI will be my best bet to get the engine and everything else I need. It might take a few weeks for a non repairable one too come in. I did get the cable shifter mounted and I think I can use the mr2 clutch pedal assembly run off the Europa cable. I fabed it up but I won't know how it works until I have and engine and trans attached.

Looks great. Could you give a little more info on the cable shifter. I'm putting a toyota 4ag-e engine in my 67 S2. I want to use a cable shifter also. What toyota/model did you get the shifter from. Mounting info.  Appreciate any info   Thanks. Tom

I am using 85-89 cables. There are 3 cable lengths. 85-86 / 91+ NA / 91+ turbo. I'm using a 93 shifter as it is the shortest throw and I will lengthen the rod on the shifter end for the 91 turbo trans. I cut a big hole and made two brackets that bolt through the frame through the side. I had to cut and bend the driver side heater line down a bit to clear.  I don't know how hard it would be to adapt to the Renault trans. Do a Google search on MR2 shifter to get an idea of how everything looks. shifters are about $30 and early cable, maybe $40.

I had a friend machine the front hubs to from 4x92.25mm 4x100mm and used the largest diameter knurled stud, it barely covered. Stud is a Dorman 610-371 12x1.5. This will match the rear.

This may or may not help someone trying to put new sway bar bushing in. I used my inner thigh to put pressure on the end link while holding the clamp with one hand and tightening with the other.

I'm stuck inside on our first 40 degree day we've had all year, (heat wave) trying to mount a toilet flange to new porcelain tile & what's left of a cast iron sewer pipe in the basement.
