Title: Opening the windows after 31 years.
Post by: Runningwild on Friday,August 15, 2014, 05:23:55 AM
I recently purchased a 67 S2 European version.  It was in a shop for 31 years and I hotwired the windows to get them open. Is there anything I can put on the felt upright slids to make them slide easier. I WD-40'd the roller and channel under the window.  The felt slides aren't to bad just want to free things up as much as possible.  Only 32,000 miles.    Tom

I used talcum powder when I rebuilt my doors. You might also consider soap. I didn't want anything wet.

The WD-40 probably washed away some caked grease on the channel that the actuator arm works on. I would reapply some fresh grease there.

Try using any of the "dry lubricants" such as Tri-Flow or LPS. I've been using Tri -Flow to lubricate the contact points between the nylon rubbing blocks and metal slide on my lift.

Plain ol' powdered graphite.   My buddies dad own a glass shop, that is what they used on the bristled window channel.
And............please post some pictures.

Your S2 isn't from 1967.  Mid '68  to '71 for the S2.  '67 would be an S1 and, while you might still be vexed about the door windows, it wouldn't be because they move slowly.  All stated in complete envy as I have an S1 and S1s either came with fixed door windows or ones that fall out automatically and frequently.

Yea I thought it would be a 68 also but reg says 67. It was a French car bought by a army col. and made its way here in the bomb bay of a bomber.  Back when you could do things like that.  I guess it's an early S2. 54-0750. It has the S1 nose but S2 features. Going to be a great project. Photos to follow.  Tom

Those are my favourite S2s with the button doors and no warts on the nose, congrats
