Title: Floor Jack
Post by: cal44 on Wednesday,July 30, 2014, 05:48:58 PM
I wasn't sure where to place this.  If I'm wrong, Joe will straighten me out.
I bought a low profile floor jack from Amazon that is 32" long.   Hoping it would fit under the nose of a Europa to the cross member.
Yep.   No more moving things around, a little here and there until it is up in the air.  Now the front end is up in 10 seconds.

No, it is not aluminum and the stinkin' thing weighs almost a hundred pounds, but it will lift 4000lbs.  Why.....that's two and half Europa's....or there a bouts'.  Probably made in China but as long as it works that works for me.

I'd seen these before but wasn't sure it would work for me. How tall is the chassis at the rear wheels? I assume the 32" refers to the distance between the axles, right?

I lift on the rear cross bar as, if I read correctly that where most folks lift the rear end.
Of course a small block of wood to protect the paint.

If any of you order this, the shipping is free, the box is flimsy at best and don't expect perfect looking welds.................but it works on old Lotus cars and lowered cars and you don't spend a fortune.

Cheers Mike. I bought an aluminum low profile jack for the Lotus last year, but despite the low profile style, the front sway bar still prevented the lift pad of the jack from reaching the front cross member.

I have used one for years.  The beauty of this type of floor jack is that the lifting pad is at about the same height as the top of the very small front wheels.  There's not much it won't go under.

Trevor..........I have a Sears aluminum low profile and find it very difficult to use on Lotus.  Thus prompting me to buy the jack.  It goes right past that swaybar as Mr.Collier points out.
And yep........32" long

Northern Tool has thin jack for $220. They have free store delivery so if it's handy to go to a Northern Tool store, that would be a better deal than Amazon, but Northern Tool doesn't have free shipping so Amazon would be cheaper if you needed it to be shipped.
