Greetings all, I have a few too many projects so I've decided to sell my '74 Special. I got the car 2 years ago, it was just out of long term storage. In that time I've managed to get the car running/driving enough for short trips to work and local club events. Lots of work done: removed the boosters, rebuilt the rear brakes, re-hung the drivers door (you're welcome ;)), restored the header/muffler, new exhaust studs, fuel sender, rear lower links $$, thermostat. Removed gearbox to sort out reverse, installed new driveshaft seals and o-rings (the un-obtainium 5th gear parts looked great), and lots more. Car has an aluminum flywheel and newer clutch from the previous owner. All lights, gauges, windows work. Downsides: Was originally Olympic blue, now F150something red. Needs Master Cylinder (brakes work well, but there is a slow fluid leak), Engine has a little top end rattle at about 1500 rpm coming back to idle... my guess is waterpump, valve adjustment, or timing chain adjustment?. Oil and coolant look ok. I have all the original parts, the trunk, and the ashtray!! Asking $7500 for a decent running/driving project, clean title in my name, pickup near Chicago. I can't seem to get my pix to work, I'll try and add them as reply posts...
PM me with any questions, Thanks! Mark

Sorry that you’re having to sell your baby! I hope it goes to a good home where your work will be completed and the new owner enjoys many miles of Europa fun!
Your pictures came through just fine, BTW.

Hi
That seems like a very well priced and nice car indeed. GLWS. If i did not have one already I would be very interested for sure.
All the best

Bumping this great project. Need to make room and re-start work on my 7 ;D

Any interest here? Getting ready to list it on the local Craigslist/offer up/FB marketplace and would sure rather move it here to a knowledgeable enthusiast. If you are on the fence or have a question drop me a line.
Thanks, Mark.

Hello all, I had a chance to investigate the engine top end noise and found the timing chain was out of adjustment, re-set per the manual now and the rattle I was hearing is gone. Kinda surprised this car is still here? (Maybe its because I really like it and have been lazy about listing elsewhere...)

Your price is on the low side. I think if it was on Bring a Trailer or Cars and Bids carsandbids.com , it would sell for more. Bring a trailer has ended auction prices. https://bringatrailer.com/lotus/europa/?q=lotus+europa

Yep, I could totally get more on BaT. or probably Craigslist / Facebook too. I guess my "price it reasonable and sell it fast to an enthusiast" backfired by scaring off folks with too low of a price LOL! I'd keep it for sure if I had endless space and time but with 3 projects I'm busy but nothing is getting finished around here. I'm thinking about trading up to an Elise that I can drive anytime/anywhere and keep my 7 as the project Lotus.... Maybe I'll post it on Lotus Talk and invite Elise trades LOL! Mark

Welcome to the forum Lotuschappy, and congrats to on your purchase. Kudos to RacerX for making the car reasonably available to a Lotus enthusiast. Well done both. :beerchug:

I’m thinking it’ll stay largely as is cosmetically, just want it to be a solid driver. As it has arrived, after some fettling with the distributor it’s a very nice runner. To be continued!

Please keep us updated on whatever you do and whatever questions you have!
Have fun with your new baby!

Dammit, I should have bought it.

Many years ago, I was parked next to a nice stock brown/gold TCS at a LOG. I ended up emailing him and found he sold his baby for something around $13,000 IIRC which at the time was a good price. So when I saw this car only going for $14,500, I was sad. It seems like a pretty nice car. It drives and I think his interior improvements work pretty well (minus the tape on the seat). Then I saw that RacerX wanted to sell it for only $7500. I suppose Lotuschappy is selling it. It seems odd to sell a car he bought in July so soon. Maybe he'll let us know why. I just hope it's not for any unfortunate reason, but not knowing any more than I do, it seems likely that getting $7500 after only a couple of months might be the real motive.

Wow, that was fast.
Guess I should have asked for more. I got a great deal on it from a friend, and even though I put a bunch of work into it, it just seemed right to pass on a good deal to the next guy. Still feel that way, but the fact that I'm apparently about 7-8k short on the current Elise market stings a little today...
It was pretty decent when it left here, and now improved with new tires and some carb & distributor tweaking it will hopefully find a new new home.
