Title: '73 4-speed Special on auction at BaT
Post by: BDA on Tuesday,June 04, 2024, 01:17:04 PM
Pretty nice '73 4-speed Special is being auctioned on BaT (https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-lotus-europa-twin-cam-special-9/). It's pretty original except for Spax shocks, headers, and a cutoff switch. The interior has not been updated so it would benefit from recovering the seats and changing the crash pad and dash. The paint has been touched up unimpressively several places but over all, it seems like a pretty nice car.

Just saw that, and I agree. Did you note how they handled the crossover pipe removal/blanking? Haven't seen that one.

Yeah, that was a new one for me too! It would have been easier to just bolt a piece on aluminum over the holes. They must not have understood what was needed.

They weren't the only ones. This is another example of a shortened crossover pipe that came with a spare secondary throttle manifold. Apparently a homemade solution with copper piping. The last picture shows the internal crossovers cast in the manifold.

It has brake boosters… AND a Spitfire master cylinder. This guy REALLY wants to STOP!

The final price was $23,000 which seems to be a little more than similar cars have gone for recently.

I knew that car would go north of $20 grand. Yes, similar to but I think it was mechanically much better than those others. The winning bidder thinks so too and that's what matters.

 :Welcome: Dreamer!!!

Quite right. I had forgotten that the mechanicals had all been overhauled (save the tranny) by the current owner. The interior was a bit rough but the freshened mechanicals more than made up for it.
