Title: 807 Alternator pulley out of alignment
Post by: BERNIEHUMBER on Thursday,September 21, 2023, 11:01:14 AM
HI:
I am down to installing the alternator on to the 807.
The cam and water pulley line up but the alternator pulley extends out about an inch from aligning with the other two.
Any other 807 replacements go through this problem?
The alternator has a metal ventilation fan on the front so I imagine if I remove it the set up can look similar to this(pic).
I have included a pic that I had found to show what the outcome could be.
It looks like the guy had the same issue and just removed the fan and replace it with a piece of flat plate.
Thanks for any insight.
PS: someone might recognize their car

Does the alternator sit in the bracket further back?  Or different holes in head to move it back ?

HI D:
The mounting holes in the block are the only choice.
I looked at all the obvious and it now looks like removing the pulley and getting another that sits farther back.
Like I said the guy in the pic had the same initial problem I have.
If I was running two belts with the crank out the same side as water pump and cam things would be better(easier).
My 807 has the crank end out the other side (cam chain side) (capped off).

This is the only pulley I’ve seen but I’m a newbie on these motors . Here is how mine goes together.
First photo. Second picture a crossflow  not mine.
It was hard to see you dual pulley in the picture.

HI:
The latest update!
I have found the pulley needed and realized the the smaller dia one went on first then the larger on the water pump shaft.
This is opposite to most that I had seen.
Dave thanks for the pulley offer!

The drive pulley is on the camshaft so they used a step up system to get the alternator turning fast enough.  The Europa and R16 use a split pulley with shims on the cam to set belt tension.  Later Renaults used a tensioner and reversed positions of the large/small pulleys on the water pump.

HI:
Again thanks for all the input.
Here is a pic of the two different pulley layouts depending on how the cam belt was to be adjusted.

Here's a photo of a "fresh" 807 as found in the barn showing the alternator setup from the factory. May help?
