Title: cleaning with vinegar
Post by: Lumbes on Wednesday,September 13, 2023, 06:55:49 PM
After cleaning the carrier with a spray and brass wire brush I removed the bearings from the carrier and am thinking about soaking the aluminum carrier in a bucket of white vinegar for a few hours then washing it off.  Haven't done this before so am wondering what is the best way?  1 part water, 1 part vinegar until the part is submerged wait a couple hours then take a brass wire brush to it?  Straight vinegar left submerged over night?  Read something about neutralizing with a baking soda and water mix after the soak.  Any one who has used this method before I definitely would appreciate a quick do's and don'ts list.

1:1 vinegar and water.  I would check on it every 15 minutes for the first one.  You can either soak it again in just water for at least an hour, or mix in a bit of baking soda as well for the same time.

In my experience the vinegar works best if there's no oil or grease present.

Rust and other oxidised metal, such as the white stuff on aluminium.
