Title: Renault Cam chain tensioners
Post by: BERNIEHUMBER on Saturday,June 03, 2023, 04:21:36 PM
HI:
New question:
The old 807 tensioner had the screw to remove and insert Allan key to activate.
The new tensioner is "automatic".
How does this work?
I have include a manuals description.
The bottom of the new tensioner does not have any access.
See pdf.
Thanks

Could you post a photo of the new one.

It still should adjust/lock as it goes out.  As long as it does that, you should be fine.  Just bottom it and wire it all the way down while you install it.

HI J:
Here some shots of the "auto" one installed.
There are no obvious "unlock" method(s) that I can see(preferred the old one).
I will wait and see if ideas come in as I installed it "locked".
If the worst comes down I will take it out, "unlock" the plunger and wire it shut as you had mentioned then release when bolted back in.
A annoying little task but necessary.
Thanks for any hints!

Those are similar to the originals.  Once installed, push them in to release the spring and engage the adjustment mechanism.  If you pop the plunger out, you'll see how it works.
