Title: Dry or dressed

The TC water pump has a paper gasket between the timing cover back plate and block.  Miles Wilkins book say wellseal on both sides of the gasket but the Europa workshop says dry.   Any opinions on which is better?

I would use a gasket dressing.  Hylomar Blue or Permatex Aviation Gasket Maker #3.
