Title: 395 shift linkage, what are you using
Post by: Grumblebuns on Wednesday,May 03, 2023, 11:27:27 AM
For those with the 395 conversion, can you post some pictures of your shifting method. I'm assuming a cable system will be required.

I'm asking this for a friend of mine doing a Zetec conversion with a 395 transaxle on his Europa.

I let Toyota design and build the cable shifter unit:

I removed the metal bracket and mounted the plastic part inside the chassis (shows reverse lock out as well):

I anchored the custom cables in the rear chassis diaphragm:

Cable runs and rear anchors:

Fore and aft directly to the transaxle selector:

Side to side through a motion reduction lever:

It all worked beautifully:

The pictures are much appreciated. Did you modify the rear trans hoop or replace it? My friend has a S2.

I made up a new rear trans loop.  Was a while ago and I can't remember exactly why (insert sheepish grin).

Does anyone have a drawing or schematic of the linkage for a Renault 395 transaxle.

Thanks

Let me explain, I'm not sure where the leavers (on the 395) need to be for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th 5th and R.
Thanks

William, I 'm not understanding what you are asking. Are you talking about the position of the shift shaft at the rear of the 395 and their relative position for each gear selection or are you asking about a non cable shifter i.e. rod type shifter.

Looking at the rear of a 395 with the input shaft end facing away from you.  This puts the shift lever on your right side:

Rod all the way in (farthest left) and lever pushed back = 5th gear

Rod all the way out (farthest right) and lever pushed forward = reverse

The rest you can sort from there.
