S2, pro's and con's of 336 four speed to five speed conversion?
As I understand threads I have read here fifth is mostly used as an overdrive.
Difficult/expensive to change linkage?
Mounting issues?
Pro and con for performance driving?
Trying to build up the Best S2/TS I may.

Hey Richard,
Which gearbox?
Without knowing that, it's nearly impossible to comment apart from a few things.
I've offered up my 5-speeder and it interferes with the horns for the 336 rubber mount - 5-speeders are longer. I made a new 'hoop' to accommodate that and the different mountings - a work in progress.
You'll undoubtedly need to fabricate a new gear change from the cross-tree back or convert to a cable shifter.
Might need to modify / change the clutch actuation.
Also might need to check if the gearbox output drives are the correct length.

I made up a new rear hoop as well. Also made a cable shifter and had to make a custom reverse light switch. It all depends on the transaxle and what else you are doing.
You have to look at the ratios of the transaxle you're fitting. It might end up with 5th lower than a 336/352 4th.

"Tag is 395-00"
I am unsure how to find the differences other than asking here.
Web searching is mostly a waste of time as anything predating the wide use of the 'Net never happened.

You can find the manual for the 395 here: http://lotus-europa.com/manuals/index.htm

Arrrgh, guess I will be "Smart" and not dig another hole. :headbanger:

I've been having the similar thoughts lately of swapping a 5-speed into my type 46, but it seems like quite the ordeal! There are many forums on here going over it but I'm still on the fence...

I don't think these parts are going to get easier to find or less expensive.
So I am trying to gather what I may while I may.
You are already committed to a long term project.
