Title: S1 on CL, $6K, big project. NMNA
Post by: Richard48Y on Monday,August 15, 2022, 07:07:06 PM
Not sure, this guy seems high too.
Bad windshield, I would be suspicious of the chassis.
Claims to have upgrade parts but no engine.
Right around the corner from Dave Bean Eng.

Up-grade?  Did they mean above grade?

More seriously, it's not that bad really.  It's an early-ish car with the funky cover latches.  Too bad the driveline is gone but it shouldn't be too hard to find rebuildable donors.

Seller claims to have a five-speed and TC adapter parts for it.

Wellll, if I sold my 1600 cross-flow for what I paid for it I could make pretty good progress on my S2.
The 1600 CF has Dellorto's on it.
Would be a reasonable upgrade for an S1, much less expensive and probably more reliable than a TC.
Almost anything "Can" be restored with enough time and funding.

When folks would come into the maintenance hangar I worked at to talk about speed mods (mostly aerodynamic cleanup on 172s and Cherokees), we told them the rule of thumb was that each q knot in increased airspeed gain would cost them 1 AMU (equivalent to an LMU).  So...if they wanted to gain 5 kts....their checkbook would take an approximate $5K hit.  Worth it?  Maybe for bragging rights, but in the end, they'd get to their destination 200 miles away 5 or 6 minutes earlier.

Although the car looks rough most of the special S1 parts seems to be present such as the instruments, seats, tail lights, doors, etc.. The body looks unmodified and without bigger damage. The colour could be 'Wedgewood Blue' but it seems that the car has been resprayed once on top of the original colour being probably 'Cirrus White'.

It's an interesting car as there are not many S1 (i.e. pre S1A) delivered to the US. The first 200 or so Europas were mostly delivered to continental Europe. It shows up in the Europa registry and has been delivered in 10/1967 to 'B.M.C.D' just like my car (#460230).
