I've often said, that in the right place and at the right time, and for the right price (lots of variables, there) I'd lug one of these poor things home. They're just too quirky to say "No" to. It would have to have those cool factory wheels, though.

having owned one...quirky is one description. I'd love to have either of the runners...even with a europa in the garage needing attention.

I’ve always liked the Elite. I considered buying one when they came out. The Lotus distributor in New Orleans offered an interesting leasing arrangement. As I remember, the Elite was going for $16,000. The lease payments for a three year lease were about 1/36th of the price. At the end of the three years, you could buy the car for $1. The monthly payments were double my rent so I passed.
It was a pretty cool car. For such a small car, it had a back seat that was comfortable for me at 6’2”.

That was my rent in 1982 in NYC...heck most of us were only making that, even then, a little more than that a week. Housing can be 25% of your monthly gross...but a car?

It was a great deal IF you could afford it and IF you kept the car for three years of course. After all, you were borrowing $16,000 interest free and buying the car for another dollar!
