Title: U joint removal question
Post by: 69merc on Friday,March 25, 2022, 02:45:05 PM
I would like to remove the ujoint from the stub axle, but I’ve noticed the outer holes have a flat spot on them.  I checked the other stub axle and it is the same.  How to you press the caps out without grinding the flat spot away?

That's not stock.  Stock u-joint cups are retained by outer circlips. Looks to me like other yokes have been welded on.  Might have circlips on the inner face.  Otherwise need more photos to see what's up.

I’ve already removed the circlips.

They are just beat up then.

Press them out and the flattened shall be made round again.

Still too many welds on your half-shaft.

It looks factory  :confused:And it doesn’t look beat up.  But it must be made round again :welder:

But it's definitely not factory. They are not hardened so they may not be as hard to make round again as you fear.
