Title: Non running 5-speed ‘73 TCS project for sale on BaT
Post by: BDA on Wednesday,August 18, 2021, 05:35:48 PM
It does have some nice parts but it will be a lot of work the buyer.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-lotus-europa-twin-cam-jps-2/

The link implies it’s a JPS but it’s not and the seller doesn’t claim it.

The vin number puts it well within the JPS vin range.

If the Weber carbs are missing, an exhaust valve and an inlet valve will be open, so water will get in to 2 bores. The engine does not turn over. Sounds like corrosion in 2 bores at least. £700 for new liners. Been there, done that.

Respray, re-trim, new dashboard needed  MISSING ASHTRAY, no servos, missing spare wheel, rear anti-roll bar, non-standard front anti-roll bar, adjustable rear bottom arms, driveshaft hitting the gear change rod, strange water pump and drive pulleys, and a strange tube down the right rear engine compartment that looks like a roll over bar. It sticks out where the petrol filler caps are, horrible and useless.

MISSING ASHTRAY

I beg to differ there is an ashtray AND THE SPRING CLIP that look new in the parts photos.

Does that change your opinion, and make it worth a punt?  :FUNNY:

Sorry but I cannot find the elusive ashtray. All I can see is the chrome mounting plate not the matt black bakelite ashtray.

The hideous roll over bar makes a deal breaker. You would need to cut that out.

Anyone who fits that would get up to all sorts elsewhere, so there are no doubt hidden secrets to be revealed when the car is stripped for a nut and bolt re-build.

I reckon it is worth about $6,000.

Once you've expanded the photos by clicking on the +28 on the last thumbnail , it's in both the two photos immediately before the tool roll and documents.

Thank you.

They seller obviously does not realise the significance of such a rarity. It should be clearly displayed in the centre console, just below the radio. As you say, the elusive spring is there also.

It was also originally a Stromberg head car by the looks of the air cleaners as well.  It also has the extra protrusions in the sparkplug valley so it is an early diecast head converted to a Europa cam head.  I have that same style head on my car.

Went for $6600.

I said $6,000 earlier in this thread, so I wasn't too far out. A fair price for both parties IMHO.
