Title: Highly Desirable ?
Post by: Dilkris on Wednesday,March 10, 2021, 10:55:22 AM
If I had plenty of money......

I have seen this advertised before - but I still find it super desirable.

A lot of work went into that. Nothing looks hacked at all. There is or was a video on Youtube of it. I know modded cars are harder to sell but the price doesn't seem unreasonable for what it is.

Very nicely done! I think they’ll get their price.

With 320 HP and a smidge over  1800 lbs. (well 1807.79 lbs.), this is Supercar territory.  A lot of bang for the buck.

It's very well done but not really my thing, losing any luggage area isn't something I'm keen on.

But what does intrigue me is the mention of an Audi gearbox. We've had a couple of Audi TTs with nice gear changes and it did make me wonder if there's any mileage in trying an alternative to the usual NG3 series of alternatives.

Has anyone here ever tried anything other than an NG3 ?

Audi early VW Passat A4 transaxle I think was used in a build somewhere online with the VW turbo motor....

Boxster transaxle used in the Overhaulin' Europa...

Hmm, I've watched the Overhaulin Europa and John's posts here so I knew about the Porsche transaxle.

But such things aren't cheap over here so I was more intrigued by the Audi option, especially as the NG3's must be getting past their normal support dates by now.  Just wondering how much more effort is required for a modern box compared with the usual options ?

From what I remember there was a diesel Audi transmission available in the UK that is can handle more torque than the gas versions. I looked into all the Audi boxes and engines before going Toyota V6 with Toyota trans.

Phew, those links took some reading, gee there's loads of info out there.  The forum link is a rabbit hole for sure !

Did you do a "Members car" topic when you joined here ? I only ask because I couldn't find one with the search and I've never heard of a Toyota gearbox being used. The MR2 engine yes, but not the combo that you have.

(seriously off topic now......  )

I have a build thread. I did a transverse layout like Elise/Evora. It was the least expensive way to run the Toyota 3.5 V6 as I could use a nearly unbreakable E153 trans. I contemplated running a Audi V6 turbo and then Audi V8 prior the Toyota. That's why I had the links. http://www.lotuseuropa.org/LotusForum/index.php?topic=1035.msg8838#msg8838 Yes, way off topic, lol.

ahh, got it and now I've caught up with everyone else !

Watched a couple of the videos, it certainly doesn't sound (or go) like any S2 Europa I've seen !
