that’s it everything was running fine now the solex is acting up
so i decided to try the weber and the car never ran so good
my problem is the linkage solex is push weber is pull
for those who run weber downdraft how did you set up your linkage

I did it that way so the primary port was away from the block. Less heat from the exhaust manifold that way. So far it works great.

i tried to simplify didn’t work was binding in first pictures
so i tried even simpler just need to figure a way to connect wire to ball

That should work but I would use thicker steel for the bracket, at least 1/8". Try to make it out of one piece as well. Lee Valley sells a nice metal bending tool:

thank i was just trying to figure out a way to connect the weber i like the last picture but im gonna make another bracket that attaches to the two carburetor bolts not only one and i got to figure a return spring where and how to install it i got some equipment at home so i can fabricate
but for now i discovered another problem my cable is not sliding properly its all little wires together but one seems to have been cut and is preventing a smooth movement maybe i can replace only the wire not the complete cable

You can buy bulk, teflon lined, 5mm brake cable outer housing at your local bike store. Get some matching ferrules for the ends as well. If you don't have the proper parrot's beak cutters, use a file or grinding disc to make the cut ends square. I use VW type 2 throttle cables for the inner. They have a kinked end the works well and they are more than long enough. I got mine from www.cip1.ca. Cheap and cheerful and you can also get very useful things like 11mm hex, 8mm thread, brass, deep hex nuts as well.

when you say get matching ferrules do you mean the end that attaches to the accelerator pedal
where do you get yours at a bike shop or on the online site you gave me

Ferrules are "end-caps" for the outer housing or an end for the inner cable. I'm talking about the outer housing. They look like this:

The inner cable should have a bent end to fit into the hole in the throttle pedal. The VW one looks like this:

so you use the cable as is i thought you where using only the cable and changing the adapter at the end the cable i saw on the site looks more like a hook
i was trying to find an fitting like the one in the picture
so it’s use the vw type 2 cable as is plus outer housing from bike shop

Replaced mine with a Mazda Bongo van (F1000) cable.
A very nicely constructed cable complete with rubber bellows and decent end fittings.
Silky smooth and not expensive.

wow nice but it’s currently unavailable just to bad
i called a vw dealer in my area and they don’t have the vw type 2 wire have to go online and went to a bike shop he said my wire won't fit in is outer housing he said it was 5 mm but you couldn’t see the hole in the end
the solution he proposed was ordering a tandem bike brake cable comes complete except for the fittings at the ends
he said my outer housing was ok i should just go to the hardware store and buy some steel wire
im gonna try another bike shop

Yeesh, no kidding.
VW dealers won't have anything for an air-cooled van. Pretty much have to buy over the wire.

one last question does the type 2 vw cable fit in the original housing
cause i would just order the cable and be done with it

Should. It's listed as a replacement in the knowledgebase. Do try to get lined housing. It makes a huge difference -- bearing in mind you have to keep it away from exhaust heat though as the liner can melt and glue everything together.

sorry to bother you again JB but i went on the site and could not find vw type 2 i looked at the pictures and the only ones that look like the one in your picture is from a 73 bus or a beetle the other ones have a round hook instead of the kink do you know witch one i should order

while i am waiting for part i went to another bike store and got a tandem bike brake cable
i cut the front and joined it to the europa bracket with a bolt that was holding a brake cable on a bike
for the back since my carb is pull not push i flipped the pivot upside down and turned it 190 degrees
i put the spring on the side where the wire was and cut the part where you put the return spring and drilled a hole to put the cable locking bolt hard to explain but the pictures speek for themselves
when i will recieve my wire i can just replace this one no problem

Your work at the carb looks good, very good. The other end? A wee bit low-tech, but, it works!

ya i was trying to keep in the spirit of lotus
keeping it simple and light im waiting on the vw cable but for now this works great

My local Weber specialist made this bracket for mine.

Lots of brackets and adapters available for the DCOE/IDA carbs. Not much for the DGVs.
