Title: Cheesy '70s Japanese racing film featuring a TCS
Post by: literarymadness on Saturday,May 09, 2020, 01:43:40 AM
Don't know anything about the background of this cheesy '70s Japanese flick, but the main character's car is a White TCS.  The first part is like a bad Japanese version of the Fast and Furious. Later on he is in a track race against some serious '70s exotic metal like a Miura and a Countach. It also shows him adding some strange parts on to beef up his engine for the race.  I don't speak Japanese but it does show his car a lot. It is like the TCS is the star of the film.

That is hilarious!  :FUNNY: This appears to be a live action version of the cartoon Circuit Wolf, a Japanese version of Speed Racer (which was also Japanese but awkwardly dubbed in English.) I'm told this cartoon is responsible for a whole generation of Europa lovers in that country.

I love how the "Americans" in service uniforms are the baddies. They look suspiciously Japanese, but they are wearing sunglasses, so I guess we are not supposed to notice that. I haven't finished it yet, but I can already tell it is going to be amusingly over-the-top racist. Probably why we Yanks got the toned down Speed Racer and not Circuit Wolf. There is so much to make fun of here!

Wow! Just consumed my annual allotment of cheese. In the first race it seemed that the TC had more gears than a Peterbuilt. Fun to watch.

They really don't like Americans or their cars! I love the way how the race cars can drive wherever they want on the track! I thought they were on a parade lap till I saw a sign that said it was lap 5! (Did I see another sign later saying it was lap 3?!) The pictures on the dash are a nice touch!

Lots of cheese there!

I just breezed through the film, very tacky but good fun. I'll have to watch it completely some evening when I'm sick of hearing about the Carona Virus.

HI:
Great "cheese" flick!
Not as bad as the old, dubbed science-fiction ones(Rodan).
I worked at Expo 70 in Osaka back in the day and I was amazed at the traffic.
No stop signs just parabolic mirrors and everyone wore those "hole in the knuckle" racing gloves.
I drove bike(BSA) back then so I bought a Shoei helmet(not available in Canada back then).
The funnest thing was I took it back with me as carry on in the plane and I couldn't put it under the seat nor up top.
So I wore it (at least as long as the attendant was around checking belts).
She thought I was wearing it because I was afraid of flying!!Died laughing!!!

@ Surfguitar58   Good call! The translation of the title from Japanese to English is literally "The Wolf is on the Street not the Circuit."

Every once in a while it actually pays to be a linguistics professor.  I just wish I knew as much about Europas as I do academics or music.  But I'll get there one day BDA. :beerchug:

That was entertaining to watch, if only for all the car spotting, what a great lineup of cars to have the Europa associated with.  I laughed ever time they lined up side by side for a racing corner and the inside car zooms through.   Too bad there isn't a dubbed over version that could be twice as entertaining!  Thanks for sharing.
