Title: Door dropping
Post by: phil on Friday,April 17, 2020, 01:57:50 AM
Hello,
As I have some time on my hands I thought i would try and remedy the drivers door on my TC. It almost catches the bodywork, top left corner, to close I have to lift it! I have removed the door card and found it has the brass hinges, Banks I presume? Unfortunately I can't find any instructions on the adjustment of these particcular hinges, any ideas please?

Hold the square adjuster with a short 10mm and loosen the lock nut immediately under it.  Turn the square adjusters to suit.  That will get rid of any play and/or more the door up and down.

To adjust the angle, carefully loosen the base nut and shift the door as needed.

I bought wrenches and cut the handles down to suit.

I modified some old spanner’s to fit by grinding the opening more and reducing the outside of the spanner. In particular for the large base nut. I could then get a decent amount of radial movement.

I found a deep 1 1/4" socket handy for the bottom nut. That will have a 1/2" drive so I used an adapter to 3/8" so I could use the smaller ratchet. I made a 7/8" wrench out of flat steel stock for the other side.

Big socket with a slot cut in the side works well.

Nice too, Gavin! Is that for Richard's hinges or the stock type hinges. I don't think a regular socket will go over Richard's hinges and engage the lower nut.

Yeah, the slotted socket is intended for the stock arrangement.

Haven't tried it on Richard's hinges but those do look a bit tall . . which I'm guessing is what you mean.
In which case, while you've got the angry-grinder out, just cut the top off the socket as well.  :))

EDIT:
Or something like a crows foot spanner (wrench). - might be just as good.
Using a short 'wobbly' extension on a ratchet handle makes it easier in that tight space,

Richard's hinges don't have a long pin so you don't need a slot.  You do, however, need a deep socket to get to the mounting nut.

Sorry, JB, we crossed over posting there.
Agreed, probably need a taller socket for Richards hinges or as I say, cut the top off the socket.

When I originally went searching for a crows foot wrench, they were very expensive.
The one in the pic above is only $18.38. . . times change.
