Hi guys - I have a very bad S2 that I'm starting to refurb with a siezed renault engine - would it be better to restore the engine or buy another engine. I'm not sure that the engine is the original
Where would I go to to find a good recondition engine or a company that could refurb mine

First things first. what stage are you at with the engine? Head off? Crank and flywheel off? Are all the pistons seized?
Have you tried the usual tricks? filling up the bores with diesel and leaving for a week?

Hi Edmund thanks for the response - this is not a small job as the whole car is really bad.
I havnt started yet - the car has been sitting in my warehouse waiting for me. I was rushed into hospital with heart failure in May so everything stopped at that point. Its been a very slow recovery as I nearly died. I'm on the mend but still need to take it easy - I'm itching to get started - doc says not yet so I'm supervising.
Its a total rebuild job - the engine is seized and everything is rotten - water pump disolved alternator siezed windscreen de-laminated chassis rotten radius arms just holes (one collapsed altogether) so far I have these bits ready to fit. I have a new chassis, radius arms, rear hubs new brakes cables etc - even the seat runners were rotten and so far every bolt has sheared hence the new rear hubs.
The car has been out in the elements for years with no spark plugs - so I think there would be significant rust in the bores. I'm assuming the engine is a write off. I'm hoping to get a start next week and have a friend that can help (he's a mechanic) as I cant lift anything yet.
I'm hoping to get the body lifted off next week and get the head off - should have a better idea when I see the condition at that point.

Dave, glad you’re running on all cylinders again.
Sometimes Renault16shop.com has complete engines for sale. They are very helpful with questions you may have.

Perhaps our UK members can suggest an engine specialist. I have happily used Salv Sacco for parts for my hemi and he has a glowing rep as an engine builder.

I'm so glad you survived your hospital adventure! :beerchug: That must have been harrowing! Now is a great time to accumulate parts as you have been doing. Having a helper is obviously a big plus.

I am glad to hear that you are on the mend and that you have a helping hand with the project...
regarding engine work, as JB mentioned, Salv Sacco has a great reputation.
(one thing that he said to me when I contacted him was that he prefers to receive an engine as complete as possible so he can strip it for himself rather than receive a box of parts)

Thanks guys - sunderland is located in north east UK close to newcastle.
I have cleared out a space and moved the new chassis into the space I have had a chat with the guy helping me and he will get a start with it next week
I also have a local guy that has rebuilt several of these incredible cars and is on hand with lots of great advice.
The body will come off first and I can get the engine out and onto the bench. I have a lot of parts but there will be more required as we go along.
I will let you all know what the engine looks like when I get the top off. - I do need a carb and a dizzy if there is any around.
