Title: Cam Shaft Pulley
Post by: Bart on Wednesday,January 15, 2020, 07:22:43 AM
Good morning all,

I need to buy/make a cam shaft pulley that turns the belt to drive the alternator, as I don't have the original pulley I was hoping someone could let me know its outside diameter and belt section/profile. I wanted to use an aluminium pulley to reduce the rotating mass, RD has them on their site but has no stock or plans to get more and Banks only have a 4" diameter one that will turn the alternator too slowly (or at least slower that the original).

I measured the shaft and its 7/8ths with a keyway, McMaster has a cast aluminium pulley at 4-5-6-7" OD for a 7/8ths shaft that will take 3L or 4L section belts not sure this is suitable or will work...

As usual thanks for any help.

Bart,

I assume you have a twincam engine.

I have an oem pulley I am willing to part with.  It is 7” in diameter and has a keyway in the approximately 7/8” bore to fit the cam.   An off the shelf pulley will need some machining to fit on the cam properly.

Let me know.

There was a guy on the yahoo group who made them for several TC owners. He did a great job. He even made a custom one for my engine (see attached photo). I don't know if he's still doing them but you can email him at markdinkens2000 at yahoo dot com.

Aren't the aluminium ones for the crankshaft, the ones at the front of the engine driving the waterpump ?

The link to the aluminium pulley is indeed for a crankshaft pulley.  The top link is to the pulley he is looking for.
