Title: Japanese S1A walk around video
Post by: Nockenwelle on Tuesday,December 17, 2019, 11:05:25 AM
I stumbled about this nice walk around video of a Japanese S1A in Cirrus White. Lots of patina to like here.
I particularly like the wheels on that car, they seem to be made by Dunlop called 'D1 style B'.
Has anyone an idea where I can get a set of those?

Hello Nockenwelle,

What a great video, the car looks very original but I have not seen those wheels before?

My S1A was most likely Cirrus White originally before it became the tired, hand-painted, blue example that it is now!

(white must have been a fashionable colour choice back then - or Lotus struck a good deal for white with the paint supplier?

Hi Mark,

my S1 was Cirrus White too before it has been painted Carnival Red a long time ago. I think white was indeed the most popular colour of the Europa colours. What are your plans considering the colour choice of your car once it will be repainted? Back to white again or any other colour?

Hi Klaus,

it would seem to have been a very popular colour! (my '66 Elan was also Cirrus White!)

The Europa's previous owner found traces of white beneath parts as he took a closer look at the car.
Unfortunately the factory have no records of the original colour so whilst I'm keen to keep the car as original as possible, I may go for a different colour - I really like French Blue and Lotus Yellow as they would be correct colours for the year,

Mark

French Blue and Lotus Yellow are both lovely colours which would be on my short list too.
I think all of the original colours suit the tiny plastic car very well.

Hi Klaus,

I have a set of those Dunlop alloys on my Europa and I recently got a spare off eBay! I’d be interested in a swap if you had a full set of decent steel lotus wheels with hub caps!
Cheers.

Hi Bodzer,

very nice offer but I have only one set of steel wheels and that are the original 4.5 inch steelies that came with the car. So I need to keep them.
Could you be so kind to measure the offset and the weight of that rim and maybe post a picture? That would be great  :)

Understood Klaus.

I’ll try to get the measurements today.

Hi Klaus,

The Dunlop’s have a one inch offset outboard as far as I can tell. I hope that helps you. I will try to post a picture but I’ve never had much success at it here!

Merry Christmas!

Hello Bodzer,

thank you for the measurment :). That helps to confirm, that those rims should fit.
Posting pictures is really easy: just add it using the 'Attachments' option. You may need to resize it before uploading.

Merry Christmas to you too and all the other forum members,

Klaus
