Title: Shift adjustment
Post by: cal44 on Wednesday,December 19, 2012, 02:09:13 PM
I don't know if it is age, stupidity or what.  Is there a simple way to adjust the shift coupling that goes through  to the Heim joint on the bell housing bushing.

If I install the roll pin on one side then I can't turn the Ujoint.  If I don't install the roll pin because I want to fine tune the shifting the shifting will not work as things just roll around not doing anything............gawd.......did that make sense?

This is for a 365 trans tail shift.  I just cannot get my mind around the so-called simple task.

Get yourself 2 thin nuts, one left hand thread, one right hand, and throw away the roll pins. Use the nuts as lock nuts - infinite adjustment!

I had exactly the same problem, because the coupling broke off after the pin was removed from the front shifting tube. It seems the threaded end had some threadlocker on and it simply snapped where it was drilled and weakest when I unscrewed it.

A thin nut, like Roger suggests, now locks the coupling to the front shifting tube, whereas I left the rear pin/tube untouched. It was easy to adjust and hasn't loosened in 10 years.

So, that is two nuts on one side and one on the other.  Thank you my friends.
