Hi all,
Got another issue this week.
The speedo cable broke. Looks like the previous owner had had some issues with it as the retaining sleeve going into the gearbox was split.
I ordered one from Banks – came super quick.
But – it looks different from the one on the car.
The car is a TCS with a five speed box.
The new cable has a flat tab that goes into the gearbox - but – when I took the old one out the end of the cable was a slightly different shape and had no flat tab end, only the square cable same as goes into the speedo – please see the pics.
Could it be that the slightly different shape does not make any difference?
And
Could the flat tab still be in the gearbox? If yes, do I just pull it out with a long nose pliers? Just a little nervous at the thought of just pulling at things in the gearbox.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,

Does the new cable fit into the gearbox easily? The flat tab may just be a variation on the square inner cable.

Hi there,
Unfortunately not.

I would have to check because it's been many years since I replaced my cable, but I'm sure the end was much cruder than the new cable you have there. I have an image in my mind of the internal cable being swaged into a square end and that's what slotted into the (352) gearbox. I had a quick look for pictures and found this on the SJS website which says it's for the 352/365 box. I'm wondering if the 336 box is different and maybe that's what you have ?

Just fitted my speedo cable the other day, purchased from Richard and it definitely has a square end for the five speed gearbox. Sorry but it Looks like you have the wrong cable.

Ugh -
Yep it looks like the wrong cable :-(

Mine is a square cable that goes into a 90 degree fitting first and then goes into the gear box via the flat fitting.
