Title: advice on dashboard light
Post by: Europa73 on Sunday,January 15, 2017, 02:50:20 PM
Hi all,

The prior owner of my car put in the new dash and pad - unfortunately he did not cut an opening for the dash light that goes above the heater control.

At the moment I just have a bright light coming from inside the dash :-)

Please see the attached pic.

Any advice (or pics) on what the light hole should look like and be located?

e.g. is it a hole or a slit as with the arm rest.

Many thanks,

There's supposed to be a "cavity" above the heater controls where the light goes. Usually, the crash pads don't come with them and the guy who installs it has to make it. I'll try to get a picture of mine but I'm in the middle of things.

Many thanks,

I have the recess in there - can get my fingers in there - look forward to seeing the pic.

Cheers,

Why not just pull the bulb and not worry about it?  It's not as though it is actually doing anything useful.

Yes, but didn't Colin say simplify and add lightness? :)

Thanks all much appreciated - taking out the bulb would be the simple option.

I attached a photo of the original foam crashpad showing the location and method to attach the dash bulb.  I also attached a photo of a Banks fiberglass crashpad modified to accommodate the dash bulb.  I used foam in a can from Home Depot to fill the center of the crashpad.  I then cut a hole in the foam for the bulb and a slit in foam, fiberglass and vinyl to let the light through to the dash.
