Title: Chassis Change
Post by: digby on Friday,May 20, 2016, 08:20:30 AM
I'm sure I know the answer to this already but thought it was worth asking.
Will a Spyder Twin Cam chassis fit my S2. I'm using a Vauxhall 2.0l engine with an NG5 gearbox. I know I'll have to mod the engine and gearbox mounts but I will have to do that for any chassis.

Thanks

I guess the first question is, "What do you mean when you say 'will it fit'?"

Will it all just bolt together?  Absolutely not.

TC chassises have been fitted with S2 bodies.  The TC chassis is an inch longer in the rear "Y" section and the TC "Y" section splays out wider, sooner than an S2 chassis.  The TC radius arms are longer to suit so perhaps fitting S2 radius arms would have the wheels centred in the wheel wells.  Body mounting points are in different positions as well so some custom work will be in order.

Here's one thread I found on the subject:

Probably lots more in the knowledge base.

There is another car kicking around nicknamed "The Flamer". Now set up with a Duratrc engine but originally was a TC chassis swap into an S2 so he could run a BDA. http://www.fusiontechnology.com/lotus/lotus_1_002.htm

I'd seen pictures of that car but I don't think I read any details about it. It's a very interesting car! Very well thought out and put together!

Thanks for the information, I don't really want to start hacking the body around so I have to save some more cash and buy a S2 chassis.
