Title: air conditioning in a Europa
Post by: grnicholson on Friday,February 26, 2016, 04:56:25 AM
Hello

I am going to install the air con from a Mercedes Smart in my Europa - in Spain its essential.   The condenser will be installed at the rear and the evaporator will sit in the space used by the second petrol tank and air ducted into the cabin.

Any advice/ideas from you guys?

Thanks
Richard in very sunny Spain

I can't give any advice on the Smart car a/c but if you decide it doesn't fit I used a Vintage Air unit. It is tight but fits behind the dash and the heater is integral.

Put the condenser up front. Either attach it to the rad as in conventional installs or mirror the rad and install it on the left.

What model or part # Vintage air unit did you use?

I used a Gen II mini. There is a smaller unit that would be an easier fit if you don't have too much heat. I have a pic here. http://www.lotuseuropa.org/LotusForum/index.php?topic=1035.0 I used the non defrost unit as it is shorter. If you have frost I would just rout the center outlet straight out the top center and use a closable round vent.
