Title: Seat mounts
Post by: Gmg31 on Saturday,August 22, 2015, 02:04:40 AM
are seats really just bolted straight through the fibre glass floor? It's all looks a bit flimsy to me!

The seat mounting pair of sliding rails are bolted to two threaded metal inserts in the fibreglass floor.

Oh dear, mine weren't. Mine has been a re shelled project which was never finished. I think I'll make some sort of reinforced steel floor brackets. Thanks for the advice.

It might be worth looking at some aftermarket seat mounts as they use in kit cars, that's probably the easiest way to come up with an adjustable seat. The Lotus ones are just two strips of steel that the seat slides along and they're bolted into the floor.  Nothing fancy, they just spread the load a bit.

I always was concerned that my rear end was sitting 4"-5" above the ground with a couple of layers of fiberglass for protection. Toyed with the idea of placing a thin sheet of aluminum or steel on the outside under the seat area to further spread the load and act as a barrier to projectiles.

I was thinking much the same, a nice piece of Aluminium Chequer plate would do the job and protect the underside
