Title: Our Lotus gets a new friend from home
Post by: blasterdad on Saturday,August 08, 2015, 05:40:33 AM
Been away from my computer for a while & this is why...
Found her for sale on the side of the road about 8 miles from our house. :)
She has a new top & carpet & runs great. A PO hit a deer with it & sold it to the guy I bought it from. He put the new hood & fender on it & did his best to cobble up some wiring until he ran into some legal issues forcing him to sell it for a song. She is a '72 & completely solid!
Still having some trouble understanding what they are saying to each other though because of their British accents... ;D

oooh, a round wheel arch one. Now those weren't made for long and I think they're quite sought after over this side of the pond. I can see the attraction there and they go for good money here.

I used to have an earlier version, a 1963 Healey Sprite which was arguably the worst of all worlds. It didn't have the cute bug-eye bonnet of the previous Frogeye Sprite but it did have the plastic sidescreens instead of windows, no exterior door handles and rather doubtful security.  The even stranger thing was that despite it being a real old nail I ended up doing 1000 miles a month in it commuting to work and it never missed a beat in roughly 2yrs in all weathers.   But I was young then, so "roadside maintenance" was just like normal servicing....   ;)

That looks really nice! A little care and new paint and you'll have a real beauty! I'm wondering if your Europa has a French accent that could be throwing you off!  ;D

Is that a 1275cc or 1500cc engine? I think they put the 1500 with plastic bumpers for the later cars. The chrome bumper cars are much nicer.

She's got the 1275 engine, & you are correct, the plastic bumper ones had the 1500 in them. (1974-5 on). they actually had less power due to single carb, EGR valve, & cat converter.
Personally I wouldn't own one, they don't look "classic".
(a polite way of saying I hate plastic)  ;)

Looks a tidy little car Blasterdad. No comparison to the Europa though (IMHO)
HAPPY MOTORING

:I-agree: When I walk from the bay the MG is in into the shop where the Lotus is the Lotus looks HUGE in comparison.  :FUNNY:

Blaster, I think you have an example of the two smallest sports cars made! I guess we're just people who like to wear their cars!  ;D

Not only do they have less power, but have you ever felt the weight of the rubber bumpers? They're around 45lb each on an MGB - I guess a midget would be in the same sort of ballpark.
