Title: Off to the body shop now

My S1B is off to the body shop on Tuesday week.  I had it at one shop last year and they went under before it was finished -- completely out their control and they were quite helpful otherwise.  Now the new shop has to sand it all back down and start over as otherwise they can't be sure it was done right.  So I will have paid for two paint jobs by the time it is all done.  Such is life.  There's few odds and sods to complete before it goes but not much.  Just have to glass in the new AC ducts.  I'll post photos when they're done.

Interesting tid bits:

- with an alloy sump and front mounted oil cooler, the oil capacity is now 10 litres (double)

- Evan's waterless coolant is really, really "slippery".  It leaks everywhere unless hose connections are super tight.  Bit of a pain actually and not good for prolonging the life of the hoses.  I main drain it out and go to a more conventional coolant.

- Dells set correctly for a TC are not jetted right for a crossflow: so far a bit rich on the accell circuits.  I'll use an 02 sensor to dial them in and then report back on what works.

- the stranger-than-science-fiction drive belt system works very well.

- some of you run an odyssey PC680 battery.  I used a PC925 and can attest that it cranks for a long time, better choice IMHO.

- the exhaust is quite quiet actually: Banks headers (wrapped), 2" Magnaflow (wrapped) and a stubby SuperTrapp.

What's the "stranger than science fiction drive belt" John ? Have I just missed (or forgotten) the post ?

ps I can understand the shop wanting to restart from scratch having done a few repaints myself.   To the client it sounds unreasonable but they'll want to be sure that whatever they paint over is a sound substrate, so I'd take that as a sign of a quality shop and not someone trying to bump up the bill.

The car sounds pretty good, John! I'll have to consider a Supertrapp. My car is pretty loud - I don't mind (I just stopped worrying about hearing the radio), but I took a friend of mine out on a drive and he said it was difficult to have conversation. As for the paint, as you say, what else can you do? I'm sure it will be killer when it's done!

Uses a timing belt idler concentric with the drive pulley to get more belt wrap on the AC compressor and alternator:

whoo boy, that's some drive belt ! 

I can see what you're doing but it took a minute or two to work round all the twists and bends. I would definitely need a picture to replace one of those belts....

Interesting. I've been thinking about using waterless coolant in an effort to delay replacing my coolant pipes. Not sure if it is worth the hassle or much better than regular coolant changes?

I've read it doesn't "boil over" but that the engine will run hotter.
